Practice jig

This is used so that candidates can practice using the saw to make sink and back cuts. Also, learn to mark the tree with witness lines for their 10% hinge margin, mark the back-cut. These are all guidance lines which must be scribed accurately with the saw, so that the operator can work to those marks. This is practised on a stump first. So that the student can get an understanding of the importance of getting it correct and practice this before moving on to felling an actual tree.

Chainsaw Sharpening

In the forest, part of the course is the chainsaw maintenance and cross cutting which is learning how to use a stump vice in the forest to sharpen your chainsaw. Students need to adapt to their surroundings in the forest to create a platform for the chainsaw to be sharpened.
